Join Aviva at the Science Center for a nature yoga session. Nature yoga is where we dive into learning about the natural world around us and reflect on nature's lessons for living richer lives. This month's focus will be on mushrooms and what fungus can teach us about connecting while also letting go. 

Please arrive 5 minutes beforehand and bring a yoga mat. Don't have a yoga mat? Don't worry! Let us know and we can bring extras.

The Net Loft- Needlefelt Workshop: Mushroom Trio Woodland Scene

Framed treasure box with a trio of bolete mushrooms in their natural surroundings made from natural fibers including wool, silk, and alpaca. 

No previous experience in needle-felting required. Beginners welcome! Open to ages 12 and up

Sunday September 15th, 2:30-6 PM

$90 class fee includes all materials, frame and mat. Option available for deeper treasure box for additional charge. 

Please bring a handful of small woodland items, such as dry cones, lichen, berries, and moss to include in your composition. Collect at least one week in advance to insure items are completely dry.

Workshop meets upstairs at the Net Loft. Class begins promptly at 2:30 pm. Plan to arrive 10 minutes early.

The Net Loft- (Early Bird Session) Wet Felted Wool Workshop: Mushroom Terrarium

Our annual mushroom terrarium workshop is here!

Create a pair of mushrooms using carded wool and wet felting techniques. Class fee of $46 includes all materials for making the mushrooms, 8 inch glass dome with dry wood slice or wooden base. Please select time slot preferred.

Bring a handful of small woodland items, such as dry cones, lichen, and moss to include in your terrarium. Be sure items are completely dry.

This Early Bird Session will take place on Sunday, September 15, 7:00-9:30 am

Open to ages 6 and up. Ages 6-9 with parent. 

Save 5% if registered first for festival. The event registration confirmation will include  a community discount code.

Presentation by Steve Trudell.

An affiliate curator in the Burke Museum Herbarium at the University of Washington, Steve is the author of Mushrooms of the Pacific Northwest and co-author of Mushrooms of the National Forests in Alaska and the forthcoming Mushrooms of Alaska field guide.

Photographing and identifying mushrooms and studying their ecology for nearly 50 years, he received the North American Mycological Association’s Award for Contributions to Amateur Mycology in 2014.

With degrees in geology and forest ecosystems analysis, Steve has taught mycology and other environmental science courses at the University of Washington, The Evergreen State College, and other institutions. His research interests include mycorrhizal ecology and the roles of fungi in forest nutrient cycling.

The Net Loft- Watercolor Workshop: Mushroom Folio & Frame

Create a collection of woodland finds, while learning the basics of painting mushrooms using watercolors and gouache. Select your frame and feature it in a leaded glass hanging frame. 

$50 Workshop fee includes instruction, paper, frame, and special fall palette of professional grade paints for painting mushrooms, berries, and fall foliage. There is plenty of paint in the set for one to continue making many beautiful mushrooms at home to add to your collection.

Brushes not included.

For best results- Round Size 4 Princeton Mini Detailer recommended. Size 2, 6 rounds suggested. Bring your own, or purchase from the shop.

Class meets Thursday September 12. 6:30-9 pm

This foray is for kids and their families! Join Deryn Carter for a walk in the woods around Cordova to explore the many shapes, sizes, colors, and smells of our native fungi. 

Meet at the Cordova center 10 minutes early for a 4pm departure to foray location. Location will be near town, though may not be walkable from the Cordova Center. Participants will need their own transportation and are encouraged to carpool if possible.
